Martha’s love for the restaurant industry began in her teenage years, as she gained experience working at well-known local establishments such as Ye Olde Colonial and Davis Brothers. She continued to develop her skills at places like Pilot Truck Stop, Same Old Place, and Adrian’s Place.
When the owner of Adrian’s Place retired and planned to close the restaurant, Martha saw an opportunity. She arranged to lease the building, and on November 9, 2009, she proudly launched her own venture under the same name. This step marked the beginning of Martha’s journey as a business owner and set the stage for the lasting impact she would make on the local culinary scene.
Fourteen years later, the original location was set to be demolished, and a new restaurant was built across the street in 2023. Martha always wanted a restaurant in her name and seized this opportunity to rename the restaurant Martha’s Favorites. Known for her signature dishes, including mouth-watering fried chicken and peach cobbler, Martha’s Favorites quickly became a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Despite initial concerns that relocating the restaurant would cause her to lose customers, she found even greater success in her new location. Over time, her business has grown into a community staple, attracting patrons from all over.
Martha attributes much of her success to her strong family support system. Her two sisters, along with her cousin, play key roles in keeping the restaurant running smoothly. Her children also contribute, making the business a true family affair. This close-knit bond extends to her customers, many of whom feel like family themselves. It is not uncommon for guests to stroll into the kitchen just to say hello or offer a warm goodbye, a testament to the welcoming atmosphere she’s cultivated.
Though Martha has worked in various restaurants throughout her life, owning her own business gave her the freedom to create something that reflects her values. She’s known for her exceptional customer service and believing that every guest should leave not just with a full stomach, but with a full heart. Her signature dishes are as much about honoring her roots as they are about sharing her love for food.
One thing Martha deeply wishes is that her mother could have witnessed her success. Her mother always reminded her that she could achieve anything if she put God first, and those words continue to guide Martha in everything she does.
Martha takes life one day at a time, trusting in God’s plan for her future. She remains deeply committed to her restaurant and the community it serves. Her dedication, warmth, and resilience continue to inspire both her family and her loyal customers.
